Young Leaders from Kakheti Conducted a Training on Human Rights for Their Peers
15 October, 2025
On October 11, young leaders from Lagodekhi Municipality held a training session on various human rights topics for their peers at the Leliani Adult Education Center. Beyond sharing theoretical knowledge, the young leaders demonstrated the practical skills they had gained during a Training of Trainers session.
Preparing young leaders to be trainers was part of a broader Rights Georgia initiative aimed at promoting civic engagement among young people in the Kakheti region, raising awareness of human rights at the local level, and supporting and implementing youth-led initiatives.
The initiative, which involved more than 60 young people, was carried out in cooperation with the Leliani Adult Education Center and the Akhalsopeli Youth Center. The initiative was financially supported by the European Union (EU) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN OHCHR).
In addition to the Training of Trainers session, young people from Lagodekhi and Kvareli municipalities participated in trainings on project proposal writing and fundraising. They also took part in five in-person and five online informational meetings, where they discussed the challenges faced in their multi-ethnic communities and planned joint civic initiatives.
With the support of Rights Georgia, the Leliani Adult Education Center, and the Akhalsopeli Youth Center, youth-led activities were implemented — including public film screenings and the renewal of library collections at both centers.
Beyond the educational component and support for youth initiatives, Rights Georgia also conducted a social media campaign aimed at raising civic awareness among young people. As part of the campaign, informational e-cards were created on seven key topics: active citizenship, equality, countering disinformation, citizen journalism, volunteering, non-formal and vocational education, and skills for employability.
Additionally, a series of short videos titled “Youth Voices from Kakheti” was produced, featuring participating young people who shared their perspectives and personal experiences on these topics with their peers.
