Karlo Nikoleishvili joined the “Rights Georgia” team in May 2020, in the position of a Project Coordinator. On July 2, 2021, Mr. Nikoleishvili was elected as a chairperson of the organization's board for a two-year term.
Mr. Nikoleishvili is a Master of Law. Namely, he holds MA in Criminal Law from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and an LLM in Public International Law and Human Rights from the Riga Graduate School of Law. Mr. Nikoleishvili graduated from the Faculty of Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 2010 and since 2013 he has been a doctoral student in criminal law of the same university. His research area covers the sentencing and enforcement/execution of sanctions, as well as human rights issues.
Mr. Nikoleishvili has 10-year experience in the field of criminal law and human rights, encompassing research and analytical activities, as well as project management. He worked on various positions in the penitentiary system in 2010-2015, at Constitutional Court of Georgia in 2015-2016, at the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector in 2016-2017, and since 2017 in the projects implemented by the NGO “Rehabilitation Initiative for Vulnerable Groups” (including EU-funded projects). Karlo has been an expert on the National Prevention Mechanism since 2019.
Karlo Nikoleishvili is actively engaged in teaching and training activities. Since 2012 he has been leading seminars at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University as an invited lecturer, and since 2018 he has been an Assistant Lecturer in Criminal Law and Criminology at Tbilisi Open University. At different times he worked as an invited lecturer at Ilia State University (2017-2019) and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (2017).
Mr. Nikoleishvili is the author of four scientific articles on human rights and penitentiary issues.
